...equals love...

Monday, June 8. 2009

For my birthday, Auntie made me a beautiful necklace with my birthstone (pearl) and Carson's birthstone (aquamarine). This isn't a great picture, but it will give you an idea.

When I first got it and put it on, Carson wanted to hold "his" stone and have me hold my stone.

I wore the necklace today and when I picked Carson from daycare, I was putting him in his car seat and he grabbed my necklace. He told me to hold "my" stone and he took his. He pointed to my stone and said "mama", then pointed to his stone and said "Carson" and then he looked at me and said "love."

Mama. Carson. Love.

Absolutely.

Carson's First Movie

Sunday, June 7. 2009

Yesterday, Carson & I went to our neighborhood theater to see Carson's first movie. Our neighborhood theater is one of those cool, single screen art deco places that has been owned & run by three generations of the same family. Ironically, the house we live in was built by the patriarch of that family, along with the town's drive-in theater, whose projection house looks remarkably similar to my house.

Anyway, it was a big adventure for both of us and even though Carson only made it through about half the movie before he wanted to go home, it was a lot of fun.

On another note, when we were driving somewhere yesterday, Carson said to me, "Mama, did you see that?"
"See what?"
"I saw a squirrel. A black one."
"Really? What was it doing?"
"Just sitting there waiting for someone to feed him some nuts."
"Was someone feeding him nuts?"

Also, now that Carson is quite nearly completely potty trained, I bought him some new underwear. Actually, I bought him a nice package of Disney-themed underwear with all of the characters he know and just a few he doesn't. Case in point, he goes to his room to get some underwear and comes out with "The Incredibles" underwear. He asks me what is on them. I tell him "Those are The Incredibles. They're super-heroes. Do you like them?"

He responds, "I Sure do!!" I know it loses something in writing, but just think it in your head the way a really astounded three-year-old would say it. Cute, huh?
"No, he was just waiting."

Carson's Fort

Carson is still loving his big cardboard box. He had me drag it out into the living room the other day so he could play in it. He got some tape so he could hang something on it....

Yes, a napkin...but it looks nice, doesn't it???

When he had an Auntie day the other day, his friend Ellie May visited and he had a lot of fun sitting in his fort with all of his blankets, playing his ipod, and with Ellie all curled up with him. Ahhh, the life!

Farewell to diapers...

Friday, May 29. 2009

Around Memorial Day weekend, Carson essentially decided that he was done with diapers and wanted to move on to big boy underwear. He's had a few accidents, but he has done amazingly well at staying dry during naps. I'd been afraid to let him go with underwear at night, but he went about 5 nights staying dry and had been asking to wear underwear to bed...so I rigged up some crib liners in the appropriate places and let him go to bed in underwear. Oh, maybe I should explain I rigged this up in MY bed, since that is where he sleeps 99% of the time. Anyway...success! He stayed dry and even woke up once and had me take him to the bathroom. I am so close to no diapers I can almost feel the money flying back into my wallet!
